French Skincare Spree

I have heard lots of good things about French skincare brands recently so this evening a made an order from Le Guide Sante (Online French Pharmacy but they ship to UK). I do not need any more new skincare as I shamefully have a mountain of different lotions and potions to use up in my bathroom...but they were having a sale so I had to take advantage!

I ordered a few large bottles of the cult beauty secret amongst professional make-up artists and models: Bioderma Crealine H20 cleanser which is gentle enough to use on sensitive skin and eyes and promises to remove all makeup (even waterproof mascara) in one swipe. Unfortunately they don't sell this cleanser in the UK but the deal was two 500ml bottles for £13.50 - which is a huge saving! 

I also noticed that Avene Thermal Spring Water (300ml) was reduced to £4.64so I added that to my basket as I’ve seen many raving reviews from Beauty Bloggers about Avene, and the Thermal Water is the brand’s best-selling product so I’m intrigued to give this a go.  

I wanted to order Embroylisse cream but Le Guide Sante didn't stock it unfortunately so that shall be next on my shopping list. I shall let you know my thoughts when I've had time to test them out. Let me know if you're a fan of French Skincare? If so, which products would you recommend?

Postage to the UK is £20 which is a bit steep, so my tip is to bulk order to make it worthwhile!

Vivienne Westwood Exclusive T-Shirts for Comic Relief 2011

Guest Post: How do we keep the romance alive?

Diane from The Writing Hall contacted me to ask if she could feature on a Guest Post I was more than happy to oblige! Here is a special post for Valentines Day - hope you enjoy it let me know in the comments if you would like to see more guest posts in the furture - I like to mix things up a bit sometimes!

Remember those first few flushes of love and lust when you first meet your partner? When you feel like you’ll die before you see him/her next, and they’re all you can think about?

Women go all out to appear sexy and mysterious. “Of course, I wear basques and negligees all the time…” you’d have your other half believe. Fast forward a few years and romance changes somewhat. Their fellas think they’re getting a sex kitten but when the ‘honeymoon period’ is long gone, they find they’ve ended up with a grouchy moggy. Sat around in our baggy, bobbly pyjama bottoms and with our bra-free boobs underneath a stained T-shirt - hovering over the dinner on our lap like they’re dowsing for water - we may not offer quite the same appeal.

We don’t hide those moments we’re cutting our toenails/plucking our eyebrows/shaving our legs, yet we hope to keep the magic alive in our relationships. As for being ‘comfortable’ around each other – if that means he’s got to witness our toilet habits and the times when we bleach our top lips, well, perhaps retaining that slight distance is a good idea.

You’re a strong, confident woman – when he met you, perhaps. Following those times he’s put you to bed because you’ve been too inebriated to do it yourself, or when he’s stared at you, mouth agape, because you’ve dissolved into tears whilst watching Ghost, you could forgive him for wondering where Miss Always In Control disappeared to.

Life gets in the way; there’s nothing sexy about paying your bills, shopping for groceries or cleaning the bath, so, once these tasks are out of the way, it can be hard to turn the ‘tiger in the bedroom’ switch on.

Contrary to belief, romance doesn’t run for the hills – it changes. Romance, after you’ve been together a few years, means walking in from work to your tea on the table, a foot rub after a hard day shopping, or your other half agreeing to watch that new chick-flick with you at the local cinema.

One of the most romantic things my husband has ever proffered was to paint my toenails. At the time I was too heavily pregnant with our first child to even see my feet. It was such a small gesture that he probably won’t even remember it but it always makes me feel warm and gooey whenever it pops in my mind.

Of course, we’re not the only ones who drop the mystery with time. Men fail to be so alluring when they’ve missed the toilet pot, when their mucky underpants surface after three months under the bed. My husband snores like a low-flying aircraft and his belly-button manages to yield the planet’s supply of fluff, but I only have to think back to when he painted my toenails so lovingly and his unromantic habits pale into significance.

Romance doesn’t die – it just adapts. Valentine’s Day may only be the only overtly romantic interlude amongst 364 days of drudgery and routine, but for most of us, that’s all we need. True romance ticks away behind the scenes, keeping our relationships alive – every single day.

The SPF collection has been three years in the making and is designed to protect the skin from both harmful UVA and UVB rays all year round. Nina Ricci Limited Edition Fragrance: Dancing Ribbon

Nina Ricci is to introduce the first Ricci Ricci limited edition fragrance, Dancing Ribbon. Top notes include raspberry, rhubarb and ginger, while the Beauty of the Night flower alongside tuberose and the Centifolia rose provides mid-notes and patchouli and sandalwood make up the base. The new Glam'Eyes range is presented in a graphic, glossy black packaging, while the eye shadows themselves are embossed with a quilted pattern and the signature Rimmel crown logo. The new Eye shadows are available as a Mono (£4.49), Trio (£6.49) or Quad (£6.99) and will be available from stockists from 24 February.


Label M Organic Orange Blossom Haircare

I'm pleased to see more brands jumping on the 'organic' bandwagon. Label M are launching the Organic Orange Blossom shampoo and conditioner this coming March. These new additions to the Organic range have been formulated to target women whose hair is prone to breakage and challenged by styling restrictions. As fine hair is approximately 30% thinner in comparison to normal hair texture, the new shampoo and conditioner works to deliver a soothing yet, nutritive action while helping to add volume to the hair shaft. Key ingredients include; jojoba seed oil to help boost volume; avocado oil to increase anti-oxidant protection; linseed oil which provides reparative Omega 3 EFA’s and added vitamins to give shine.

The new Organic Orange Blossom shampoo and conditioner will be available nationwide at TONI&GUY and essensuals salons, including specially appointed label.m concept salons priced at £13.25 and £17.00 for 200ml.

Bare Minerals Skincare Launch

BARE MINERALS is introducing its debut skincare line. The new range features RareMinerals activeSoil complex, extracted from mineral rich soil and containing a blend of beneficial macro and micro minerals, and is proven to deliver faster cell turnover, visibly smaller pores, increased luminosity and softer skin. This complex also contains high levels of anti-oxidants and protects against free radicals, increasing cell metabolism. Products in this new line include two cleansers - Purifying Facial Cleanser and Deep Cleansing Foam (both £15.00) as well as a Firming Eye Treatment (£23.00). There are two moisturisers - Purely Nourishing Moisturizer for combination skin and Purely Nourishing Cream (both £27.00) for dry skin as well as the hero product, Pure Transformation Night Treatment (pictured here, £45.00), which is in a powder form. Nivea introduces new Express Hydration Body Lotion, £3.89, launching mid-February. With the aroma of Lotus Flower, it absorbs into the skin instantly and improves skin moisture levels. The key ingredient lies in HYDRA-IQ and is inspired by the Nobel Prize winning discovery of AquaPorins - previously unknown proteins that form small pores in the cell membrane that regulate the transportation of water into the cell. Well hydrated skin relies on a good network of AquaPorins to deliver moisture to the skin surface. The collection encompasses colour for lips, eyes and nails. Key products from the new range include: Cheek Duo, £12.00, a versatile blusher and bronzer in a marbled dome for both highlighting and contouring; Metallic Mousse Eyeshadow, £8.00, a metallic finish mousse eyeshadow that is long-lasting and can sweep across eyelids for an iridescent sheen, or be built-up for a deep shade; the Eye Duo, £8.00, is a volcanic duo that can double as a liquid liner if applied wet with a thin brush and is available in two shades.
